Why I Fell in Love with the Gong

Updated: Dec 3

How I became a gong master practitioner

My friend kept telling me I needed to try a gong bath. As someone who likes to experience something with no preconceptions, I didn't ask too many questions, I didn't have any idea of what to expect. When she booked us private gong bath for my birthday, I went in knowing next to nothing.

Having just received some stressful news I initially found it hard to settle into the experience but decided to think my own mantra to help me relax. As soon as I did that I had an emotional release before being transported to the pyramids- confirming I was experiencing something truly primordial.

As soon as the session I ended I wanted to find out everything I could. I had finally found me healing modality, something I had been loosely searching for since the age of 6 and had never found until that day!

I soon found my teacher, Sarah Gregg, and booked onto her 5 day residential course which preceded the further in depth training over a few months. This all came at an interesting time, not long after going for an initial day course, we went into lockdown!

The training took me a year to complete, navigating treating clients for case studies proved to be a barrier to moving more quickly amongst some health issues and an existential crisis! I went on a true journey of discovery with my two gongs, my 32 inch diameter Sound Creation Earth which I had instantly fallen in love with at Sarah's. Out of about 30 gongs, that one was always going to be a part of my collection. I knew I wanted a smaller gong that would be easier to carry, and this 24 inch one found its way to me- the Neptune gong. This aligned with my current phase of life so perfectly, a phase of deep exploration of my psyche, my shadow, my inner child ensued during this time- all intertwined in my learning the beauty of working my two gongs to tap into their full potential.

Along the way I discovered the other aspects to my gongs that would benefit me and those I worked with. These are the reasons I fell in love with the gong, in a vague order of somewhere between chronological and preference:

  1. Initially it was its primordial presence and capabilities- the way the frequencies transport and connect you to this deep inner knowing of sound and how sound is creation. It's taken me on journeys through the cosmos and beyond!

  2. Its ability to take you on a journey through your subconscious, providing psychedelic and profound visions

  3. Its power to focus my mind and get me into flow state through harmonising my entire being

  4. This helps us clarity of mind and epiphanies that can help us with decisions that can change the course of our lives for our highest good. One client quit her job immediately after a gong bath and found a much more exciting and enjoyable job!

  5. Its ability to energise me or lull me to sleep- the gong knows what you need!

  6. The relief of any pain that I or clients are experiencing, particularly useful for period pain in my experience, as that tends to be the only pain I do experience and for clients suffering with fibromyalgia and the physical symptoms of sickle cell disease- incredible!

  7. Witnessing the bliss and harmony it creates in the receiver and between the group

  8. Being able to support the children I work with and see them fall in love with the peace of mind it brings them

  9. Its ability to help the receiver experience deep sleep, either during or following the session that night and sometimes for several nights

  10. How it makes us feel "otherworldly"

  11. I have treated a few clients with tinnitus, during the healing their symptoms disappear and one client's tinnitus never returned!

  12. Using it as a tool for manifestation, raising our vibration is key to supporting the fulfilment of our desires

  13. Using it as a tool to access the subconscious in order to support deep processing and shadow work and the release of any blockages, stagnancy and what no longer serves us

  14. The additional side to sound healing is it's allowed me to create a sense of community and deeper connection between strangers, sometimes these strangers become regulars, other times we just connect for that one session and it's beautiful to be a part of

And that is why and how I fell in love with the gong!
